During the Christmas season we try to go to Temple Square in Salt Lake City to see the beautiful lights they have there. This year our son Russell and our grandson James came to town so we drove down on Monday night before Christmas and spent some time in Temple Square and then across the street to the conference center. They had never been inside so we took a tour. It was a very enjoyable time.

A Look Back In Time - My Altonah Home

Pictures: 1. A look back towards our house from where the ward building used to be.

It has been years since we have been back to Altonah. When I left in 1956, there was still a town there. Back in the 20's, 30's and 40's Altonah was a busy little town in the Uintah Basin. There were a couple of general stores, a Gas Station, Post office, School, a creamery, Forest Service Ranger Station and the Altonah Ward (LDS). All the roads were dirt in the summer and mostly mud and snow in the winter. I used to catch the school bus in front of my uncle's general store. We used the church building for more than church on Sundays. Tuesday was where we met for youth activities. I did a lot of "hanging out" at my uncle's store and the gas station across the street, with a bottle of Nehi pop of course. Time has taken its toll on Altonah. The only thing left is the Ranger Station and a few homes. Sad, but there are still some good memories.
